Music Camp
A Music Camp in Music City for Persons with Unusual Abilities
Williams syndrome is a common genetic disorder that leads to learning and developmental disabilities. People with Williams syndrome have cardiac problems and
troubles with visual-spatial tasks; at the same time, most persons are very friendly, outgoing, verbal, and empathetic, with keen interests in music. Some persons are quite
musically talented, while others have an incredible zest and love of music not seen in others with developmental disabilities.
In response to this Vanderbilt Kennedy Center, Blair School of Music, and National William Syndrome Association partner to create Music Camp. Music Camp provides
persons with Williams syndrome a unique opportunity to focus on what they love and do well – MUSIC!
Music Camp Goals:
- Learning and Practicing new skills
- Music enrichment and appreciation
- Performing with other musicians
- Socializing with mentors and peers
- Feeling connected and empowered
- Family support and information
The first Music Camp took place on June 17-24 of 2006 and targeted 10-12 campers – adolescents and adults with William Syndrome.
Dates have not been released for 2007.
